AI Unicorns Dominate

A new report from BestBrokers ("Unicorn Startups: AI and HealthTech Post Record-Breaking Valuations in 2026") listing the world's most valuable unicorns shows that AI companies are now among the world's most valuable private startups, with several AI firms reaching valuations above $100 billion.

In venture-capital speak, a unicorn is a startup company with a valuation exceeding $1 billion.

In the BestBrokers list of most valuable unicorns, the top spot is occupied by Elon Musk, co-founder of xAI, as well as Tesla and  SpaceX. The report notes that SpaceX became the world's most valuable private company after merging with xAI, pushing the combined valuation to approximately $1.25 trillion.

In the second spot is ChatGPT creator OpenAI, also nearing the $1 trillion mark, with a current valuation of $852 billion following a massive $110 billion investment (the biggest investment in a private company to date) by technology giants Amazon, Nvidia, and SoftBank, according to the report.

OpenAI is one of the world’s highest-valued unicorns, reflecting the massive investor interest in generative AI and foundational AI platforms, according to the report. The company was originally founded as a nonprofit focused on deterring potential misuse of AI and was funded by high-profile investors such as Musk, Sam Altman, Reid Hoffman, and Peter Thiel. Microsoft is currently one of OpenAI’s largest stakeholders with an investment of $13 billion.

Another key AI company with a massive valuation is Anthropic, which recently secured $30 billion in Series G funding led by GIC and Coatue, boosting its valuation to $380 billion.

Further down the list, in seventh place is Databricks with a valuation of $134 billion. Its position as one of the most valuable AI infrastructure companies highlights the importance of enterprise data and AI tooling in the current market.

Humanoid robotics maker Figure AI rounds off the top 15 with a valuation of $15 billion. The company is focused on building robots and producing the AI engine that will make its robots smart, the company said.

The BestBrokers report leaves no doubt that AI companies are the most valuable unicorns in 2026, thus far, and it's clear that makers of this technology are no longer niche startups. OpenAI and Anthropic now rank among the most valuable private companies globally, driving the current wave of unicorn growth and investment.
