IBM has acquired Hakkoda Inc., a global consultancy specializing in data modernization and artificial intelligence, the company announced this week. The acquisition is part of its push to bolster IBM Consulting’s capabilities in preparing enterprise data estates for AI-powered business operations.
Fnalized on April 2, the acquisition expands IBM's portfolio in data transformation services, adding Hakkoda’s expertise in migrating, modernizing, and monetizing enterprise data platforms. The company views this capability as critical groundwork for deploying generative AI at scale. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Hakkoda, a recognized Elite Snowflake partner, brings hundreds of certifications and award-winning capabilities in cloud-based data platforms. Its generative AI assets are expected to accelerate modernization efforts across key sectors, including financial services, healthcare, life sciences, and the public sector.
"With Hakkoda’s data expertise, deep technology partnerships, and asset-centric delivery model, IBM will be even better positioned to deliver value faster to clients as they transform with AI," said Mohamad Ali, Senior Vice President and Head of IBM Consulting, in a statement.
Founded with a mission to be an active force in the evolving AI landscape, Hakkoda emphasized the alignment of vision with IBM. "We are excited to join IBM at this critical moment when organizations are looking for a trusted partner to help them modernize their data for the AI era," Erik Duffield, Hakkoda's CEO and co-founder, said in a statement.
Headquartered in New York, Hakkoda operates across the United States, Latin America, India, Europe, and the U.K., and brings hundreds of consultants into IBM's global network. The company holds advanced-tier partnership status with Amazon Web Services (AWS) and has received multiple accolades from Snowflake, including the 2024 Healthcare & Life Sciences Services Partner of the Year.
According to market research firm IDC, global spending on enterprise intelligence services is projected to grow from $169 billion in 2025 to more than $243 billion by 2028, representing a 13% five-year compound annual growth rate. IBM aims to tap into this momentum with end-to-end consulting solutions powered by its AI delivery platform, IBM Consulting Advantage.
The deal marks the latest in a series of acquisitions by IBM focused on strengthening its hybrid cloud and AI consulting business. The company serves more than 175 countries and supports clients in critical infrastructure sectors including telecommunications, financial services, and healthcare through platforms such as Red Hat OpenShift.
