Low-Code Pioneer Mendix Adding Generative AI To Platform via Amazon
Low-code developers looking to build AI capabilities into their applications got some welcome news from Amazon Web Services and Siemens at this week's Consumer Electronics Show.
The two companies announced they were expanding their existing partnership by giving users of the pioneering Mendix low-code developer platform, which Siemens acquired in 2018, access to major foundation AI models via Amazon Bedrock.
The integration, according to AWS, "will make software development simpler, faster, and more efficient -- allowing users to incorporate generative AI functions in just a few clicks."
Since its founding in 2005, Mendix has been used to build over 200,000 applications. The platform is meant to help organizations create complex, highly customizable, enterprise-grade applications with little to no coding work required. Amazon Bedrock, meanwhile, is a managed serverless cloud service that gives developers who want to build apps leveraging generative AI access to models from major AI players like Anthropic, Meta, Cohere and Amazon itself.
Combining the two products will let low-code developers more easily add generative AI capabilities to their applications, using the AI model of their choice.
"Previously, when developers wanted to integrate generative AI models, they had to obtain access credentials, and write specialized function code," Siemens explained. "With the new Mendix-Amazon Bedrock integration, this can now be done with just a few clicks."
Bedrock also comes with security, privacy and content controls that Mendix users can leverage to make sure their apps comply with their companies' data privacy and responsible AI policies.
"By integrating Amazon Bedrock into our low-code platform, we are democratizing generative AI technology and empowering everyone to create the applications customers need to become more competitive, resilient, and sustainable," said Siemens CEO Roland Busch in a prepared statement. "Making smarter applications without programming expertise accelerates innovation and helps companies to tackle skilled labor shortages."
