AI-Driven 'Augmented Data Quality' Market Has 3 Leaders
When it comes to augmented data quality solutions, the top vendor in the market is Informatica, followed by IBM and Ataccama.
According to a new report from research firm Gartner, Informatica leads all companies in "execution" and "vision" (as measured in its "Magic Quadrant" approach). The company shares the "Leaders" quadrant with IBM and Ataccama.
While cloud offerings abound along with on-premises solutions among the vendors, no major cloud platform providers are included in the report, though Amazon Web Services, Google Cloud and Microsoft Azure appear in solution descriptions.
Gartner defines augmented data quality solutions as providing "a set of capabilities for enhanced data quality experience aimed at improving insight discovery, next-best-action suggestions and process automation by leveraging AI/machine learning (ML) features, graph analysis and metadata analytics."
Use cases include:
- Analytics, artificial intelligence and machine learning development
- Data engineering
- Data and analytics (D&A) governance
- Master data management
- Operational/transactional data quality
With AI/ML tech permeating the space and its research report, Informatica's "strengths" naturally lead off with its AI/ML capabilities. Gartner noted the company recently launched generative AI initiatives called CLAIRE GPT and CLAIRE AI Copilot, which are both in preview.
The company's AI/ML capabilities are also used throughout its data quality products, which are part of its broader Intelligent Data Management Cloud (IDMC) platform.
The report describes the importance of generative AI in the data quality field and elsewhere noting that along with benefits, its use presents a new challenge: "Building AI-ready data to ensure the high quality of AI models also places a new demand on data quality."
If that demand is met, though, data quality can provide a competitive advantage for data and analytics (D&A) leaders, the company said.
"A Gartner Webinar poll in July 2023 found that 42 percent of organizations are piloting generative AI or in production, and 50 percent are actively assessing it," the report said. "With the rise of generative AI, data quality solutions facilitate the adoption of GenAI by providing technologies to prepare training datasets and get your data AI-ready."
Ways to do that include:
- Minimize and mitigate risks with compliance and privacy
- Shorten the data preparation process in data pipelines
- Increase business efficiency with process automation and data sharing
- Turn data into revenue with analytics and AI
Gartner's Magic Quadrant reports are typically available for free in licensed-for-distribution versions provided by the companies mentioned in the report, upon registration details being provided. A simple web search for the title will usually turn up a link on some company's site.
