Zuckerberg Outlines Vision for "Personal Superintelligence" in AI-Focused Manifesto

Meta Platforms CEO Mark Zuckerberg released a statement on Tuesday outlining the company's long-term focus on "personal superintelligence," a concept he described as an AI-powered system tailored to individual users rather than one directed centrally to automate work at scale.

In a public note shared via Meta's internal blog and external communications channels, Zuckerberg said he expects artificial intelligence systems to gradually become self-improving and significantly reshape personal computing. He emphasized Meta's commitment to using AI to empower individuals directly, rather than displacing large sectors of the economy.

"As profound as the abundance produced by AI may one day be, an even more meaningful impact on our lives will likely come from everyone having a personal superintelligence," Zuckerberg wrote, "that helps you achieve your goals, create what you want to see in the world, experience any adventure, be a better friend to those you care about, and grow to become the person you aspire to be."

He framed Meta's approach as distinct from others in the tech industry who advocate for centrally controlled superintelligence focused on automating labor. "At Meta, we believe that people pursuing their individual aspirations is how we have always made progress expanding prosperity, science, health, and culture," he said.

The statement reiterates Meta's interest in AI hardware integration, particularly through context-aware wearables, and hints at a broader infrastructure investment to support large-scale deployment. Zuckerberg also acknowledged the safety risks of superintelligent systems and said Meta would be cautious about open-sourcing future models.

"We believe in putting this power in people's hands to direct it towards what they value in their own lives," he wrote. "Still, we believe that building a free society requires that we aim to empower people as much as possible."

While he did not announce specific products, Zuckerberg said the current decade would be "decisive" in determining how superintelligence is shaped, and Meta plans to use its platform scale to influence that trajectory.

The comments come amid growing public and regulatory scrutiny of AI development, and as several tech firms race to build increasingly powerful foundation models. Meta's framing of personal superintelligence as a human-centric alternative may reflect both a product vision and a strategic response to concerns about AI governance.
