VAST Data Partners with Microsoft to Offer AI Platform on Azure

VAST Data said on Monday it will make its AI Operating System available on Microsoft's Azure cloud, aiming to help enterprises manage data across different computing environments as they build artificial intelligence applications.

The collaboration, announced at Microsoft's Ignite conference, will allow Azure customers to access VAST's data storage, cataloging, and database tools through the cloud platform. The system is designed to handle AI workloads that span on-premises data centers, hybrid setups, and multiple cloud providers.

The VAST AI OS will integrate with Azure's existing management, security, and billing systems. The platform includes tools for vector search, retrieval-augmented generation pipelines, and autonomous agent orchestration, technologies that underpin many current AI applications.

"This collaboration with Microsoft reflects our shared vision for the future of AI infrastructure, where performance, scale, and simplicity converge," said Jeff Denworth, co-founder at VAST Data, in a statement.

The system supports multiple data access protocols, including file, object, and block storage, and features a disaggregated architecture that allows customers to scale computing and storage resources independently. VAST said the platform will run on Azure's Laos VM Series, which uses accelerated networking technology.

Aung Oo, vice president of Azure Storage at Microsoft, said in a statement that the partnership would help customers "streamline operations, reduce costs, and accelerate time-to-insight for AI workloads."

The companies said they plan to work together on future infrastructure requirements as Microsoft develops custom silicon for AI computing. Financial terms of the partnership were not disclosed.
