SQL Server 2019 Touts New Machine Learning, AI Features
On Monday Microsoft announced that SQL Server 2019 moved into the "general availability" (i.e., live) stage, and with it so are the flagship database's new machine learning features.
There are number of new artificial intelligence-related features in this new version. To start, SQL Server 2019 now offers Linux support for R and Python. A getting-started installation guide is available here.
SQL Server 2019 will offer loopback connection to SQL Server from R or Python (both Windows and Linux). As long as you can generate the correct connection string from R or Python, you should be good to go. There's also now support for CREATE EXTERNAL LIBRARY (Transact-SQL) for both Windows and Linux.
There are also a couple of new parameters that let users " easily generate multiple models from partitioned data" with R.
Note that Java support comes with SQL Server 2019.
Microsoft is also touting intelligent query processing within SQL Server 2019, as well as AI-driven performance enhancements. "These improvements help overcome known resource bottlenecks and provide options for configuring your database server to provide predictable performance across all your workloads," the company stated.
Microsoft announced the launch of SQL Server 2019 on Monday at its 2019 Ignite conference in Orlando, Fla.
